Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). A few years later, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered for the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the arm control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
