Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at mainstream stardom were fruitless with two record labels signing and then dropping her before the release of any music. In 2007 however Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted little attention due to its jolly humorous title track. I kissed a Girl, a confident ode to her sexual curiosity with a hard-edged electronic pop beat, made a bigger splash several months after. Many critics accused the track of promoting homosexual relationships however others suggested the song's sexually explicit lyrics were meant to appeal to male fantasies. However, the mix of sensuality and polished music helped I Kissed a Girl become the number one song across multiple countries, generating sales for her album One of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold was a success in the United States, and the second track on the album Hot N Cold with its interesting bouncy, sharp tongued beat became popular.
